The February meeting:
The 37th Annual Garland Lecture in Chemistry presented By Professor K. C. Nicolaou from Rice University at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2017 in Rangel College of Pharmacy, Room 132. The flyer has been attached here.
His website: http://nicolaou.rice.edu/index.html
His topic is "The Art and Science of Organic Synthesis and Its Impact on Science and Society".
Abstract: In this lecture, a brief historical overview of organic synthesis and its impact on science and society will be followed by highlights of recent advances in total synthesis from the speaker's laboratories. Specifically, the total synthesis of natural and designed molecules of biological and medical importance will be presented, including Taxol®, calicheamicin γ1I, viridicatumtoxin B, uncialamycin, and shishijimicin A. The lecture will also touch upon the impact of total synthesis on the advent of antibody drug conjugates (ADCs) for targeted cancer therapies.
